The Russian tamed Magda Linette. There will be no match against Sabalenka
Magda Linette wanted to reach the quarterfinals of the WTA 500 tournament in Brisbane. There, she could face the world’s second-ranked Aryna Sabalenka. Unfortunately, the Pole lost to Daria Kasatkina in the third round and was eliminated from the competition.
We are closely watching what is happening in the antipodes. Polish national team, among others with Iga Świątek and Hubert Hurkacz on board, he takes part in the United Cup, a mixed teams tournament. Magda Linette was seeded number nine in the WTA 500 tournament in Brisbane. In the first round she received a free ticket. Then she defeated Spain’s Cristina Bucsa 6-3, 7-5. Her next rival was Daria Kasatkina. Unfortunately, the match did not go the way our representative wanted.
The opponent left Linette with no doubts
From the very beginning of the match, the Polish representative had big problems. She was losing 0:4 and even waking up later did not allow her to reverse the fate of the first game. Kasatkina was traditionally patient in her game and scored points for the Poznań player. Ultimately, our tennis player lost in the opening game 4:6.
In the second set it was even worse. This time, Kasatkina did not allow herself to be threatened and again built a large advantage, maintaining it until the end. She won the game 6:2. The Pole lost only 6 games, and the entire match lasted 88 minutes. Thus, the Russian advanced to the quarterfinals of the WTA 500 tournament in Brisbane, where she will face Aryna Sabalenka, the second-ranked player in the world ranking.
Sabalenka is looking great in Australia so far. In the third round against Lin Zhu, she lost only one game. Earlier, she defeated Italian Lucia Bronzetti 6:3, 6:0.
A serious challenge awaits Linette
Magda Linette, in turn, says goodbye to Brisbane. She was also eliminated from the doubles tournament, where she played in a duo with Bernarda Pera. Now the Pole is to take part in the competition in Adelaide.
But the real challenge comes later. After Adelaide, it will be time to compete in the Grand Slam Australian Open. Meanwhile, a year ago on the courts in Melbourne, Linette won the semi-final, so she will defend as many as 780 points in the WTA ranking.
