Paris 2024: Dorota Borowska will not go to the Olympic Games
The Polish kayaker was suspended due to breaking the rules. What exactly are we talking about? Unfortunately, unofficially, the issue is supposed to concern the detection of prohibited substances in a test that was conducted at the end of June this year.
The Polish Kayak Association issued a statement on this matter.
“The Polish Canoe Federation informs that on 15 July, information was received from the International Canoe Federation about the detection of a prohibited substance in a sample taken in June from Dorota Borowska, a representative of Poland in the canoe sprint. In this situation, we immediately informed the Polish Olympic Committee, and the athlete’s name was not officially announced in the squad for the Paris Olympics. Dorota Borowska, by decision of the International Canoe Federation, was suspended. However, she has the right to appeal and request that sample B be tested. According to the information that the PZKaj received from the coaching staff cooperating with the athlete, it results that she intends to exercise this right. We inform that we support purity in sport and strongly condemn the use of prohibited doping substances. We also declare full cooperation with the relevant anti-doping bodies. However, we would like to emphasize that we do not prejudge the athlete’s guilt and we take the position that everyone has the right to a fair trial. We will keep you updated on the matter to avoid unnecessary misunderstandings and rumors,” the statement reads.
Borowska is a medalist of the World and European Championships. She returned to kayaking competition after a serious injury. At the last Olympic Games (Tokyo 2021) she took fourth place. The Polish athlete specializes in the C-1 competition.
XXXIII Summer Olympic Games in Paris from July 26
The capital of France has already hosted the Summer Olympics twice in the history of Olympism. Paris hosted the most important sports event a long time ago, in 1900 and 1924. The International Olympic Committee decided that exactly one hundred years after the last time it was held on Parisian soil, the heart of France would once again be the main arena for the Summer Games.
The slogan of the 2024 Olympic Games is: “Wide Open Games”. From Wednesday, July 24 (opening ceremony July 26) to Sunday, August 11, a total of 329 events will be held in 32 sports. A total of over 10,000 female and male athletes will take part in the Olympic competition. Interestingly, in Paris, there will be full equality, exactly 50 percent of female and male participants at the games.
The Polish team won a total of 14 medals at the last Olympic Games, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (held in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic). They included four gold medals and five silver and bronze medals.
In Paris, we will see a total of 213 people in white and red colors. 113 women and 100 men, for the first time in history there will be more women at the summer Olympics than men in the Polish team. It is worth adding that the Polish team will also have 251 collaborators, including 110 coaches.
