Vital Heynen has been associated with women’s volleyball for two seasons. He took over the German team and also joined the Turkish Belediyespor. Now he can return to men’s volleyball again. He was on a short list of candidates for the coach of a recognized national team.
Vital Heynen is still a very popular figure in Poland. During the qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games in Łódź, the Belgian could enjoy considerable interest, greater than any of his competitors. He willingly gave interviews and posed for photos. Even though he works outside the country, he is still remembered with great fondness.
Vital Heynen may return to men’s volleyball
The world champion from five years ago failed to achieve success with the Germans this year. He was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Nations League and the 1/8 finals of the European Championship, losing to Stefano Lavarini’s team. Also during the Olympic qualifications, our western neighbors had to acknowledge the superiority of the Polish women, who finally qualified for the tournament in Paris.
Heynen still remains the coach of the German women, who may try to fight for the Olympics via ranking. However, this is a very difficult task. However, the Belgian applied for the position of coach of the Iran men’s team, one of the best teams in the world, which has been in crisis in recent months. Due to this, Behrouz Ataei left the position, and the Iranian federation started casting.
In addition to the Belgian, the short list of candidates for coach also includes Peyman Akbari and Saeid Marouf (the legend of the Iran national team), Roberto Piazza (still the current coach of the Dutch), Gianlorenzo Blengini and Vladimir Alekno. The latter worked with the Iranians until recently. The period of his work was related, among other things, to conflicts with volleyball players.
Iran is fighting for the Olympic Games
Iran did not qualify for the Olympic Games through the qualifying tournament. He may try to fight for a ticket to Paris through next year’s VNL. This means a potential game against Nikola Grbic’s team. In the FIVB ranking, the team from the Middle East is in fifteenth place.
