A cheerful procession of Polish volleyball players after winning the European Championship
The Poles had long been mentioned as favorites for the championship, but the same was said about the Italians, who could boast a series of 17 wins in a row in the tournament. Their previous defeat occurred in 2019. Despite this, they were helpless in the final when the White and Reds dominated with their effectiveness and block play. Most of the fans gathered in the Roman hall could only watch the celebration of Grbic’s players.
For the White and Reds, this is the second triumph in the history of the European Championship. The previous one took place in 2009, when Daniel Castellani’s team defeated the French in the final. From that squad, only Bartosz Kurek is still a member of the team. After the match against Italy, the team captain, who could not play in the last matches due to an injury, was the leader of the procession with the cup. After the official medal ceremony, when there were not too many people in the hall, the Poles took a train to the bus, singing “The train is coming from afar”. Films of the fun were posted on social media by Polish journalists.
