The Polish footballer wanted to leave the training camp. He was stopped by Robert Lewandowski
The Polish national team will resume competing in the European Championship qualifiers in a few days. The team will be led by a new coach, Michał Probierz. He has a difficult task ahead of him. As one of the team members revealed, during the last training camp, he wanted to leave the team prematurely due to Fernando Santos’ decision.
Polish players are playing subsequent league rounds. After the next weekend, the best players will go to the training camp of the red and white team. For the first time, the team will be led by Michał Probierz. The former youth coach joins the senior team, replacing Fernando Santos.
Paweł Dawidowicz wanted to leave the training camp
The Portuguese didn’t work for Wisła for very long. The Polish Football Association hired him in January, and the contract was terminated in September. The 2016 European champion suffered embarrassing defeats against Moldova and Albania. Poor results prompted Cezary Kulesza to part with the coach and pay him the rest of the contract.
Michał Probierz will have a difficult task of rebuilding the team. Conflicts within the staff, as well as poor PR and results mean that he has a lot of work ahead of him. More information from Santos’ team has just come to light. Paweł Dawidowicz revealed in “Kanał Sportowy” that he was close to leaving the training camp. This was due to the Portuguese’s decision to send him to the stands before the match against the Faroe Islands. The resigned Hellas Verona defender stayed on thanks to Robert Lewandowski’s persuasion.
– He talked me into playing ping pong. At first I didn’t want to, but he convinced me. I told him that I would thank him politely and go to the club to better prepare for the performances. He replied: “Pawka, don’t do that, wait. There are only four days left. It’s not worth it.” I struggled with my thoughts, but I agreed with him. I put my pride in my pocket, admitted Dawidowicz.
Paweł Dawidowicz’s career
Paweł Dawidowicz has been a Hellas player since 2018 (permanently since 2019). Previously, he played for Palermo, VfL Bochum and Benfica, to which he joined from Lechia Gdańsk. He played in eight matches for the Polish national team.
