KO, Third Way and the Left are starting to build a government in post-election euphoria. They will argue about the division of ministries, but they are aware that they cannot fail this process. Therefore, everyone will be ready to make far-reaching concessions. And then there will be another delight when they get offices, cars and secretaries. – It is a euphoric experience – says an opposition politician who has already been in power.
Although Law and Justice claims that it will fight for a majority in the new parliament, it is obvious that none of the opposition parties will even start talks on this topic. Voters who voted for opposition parties would crucify any formation that wanted to keep PiS in power.
This situation is ideal for the leader of the largest formation, Donald Tusk, who wants to deal the cards in the new government. He knows that smaller coalition partners can only seem angry and threaten to break off coalition talks.
In fact, they have to agree to what Tusk proposes because they are doomed to this ruling arrangement.
“Guys, don’t argue”
The three smaller parties PSL, Polska 2050 and Left in total have a significant pool of seats – 71. And if they had the opportunity to form a coalition with someone other than KO (157 seats), they would keep Donald Tusk in check. But they don’t. Therefore, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, the leader of PSL, is trying to at least create the impression that the Third Way and the New Left together create a balance for PO.
– They know that Tusk will want to divide them and then use his favorite form of government, i.e. play the role of a peacemaker. “Guys, don’t argue” – this was always his favorite way of exercising power. He brought conflicting people together and then settled the dispute, says a politician who knows the leader of the Civic Platform well.
