Tax refunds will come faster.  The president signed the law

On Monday, President Andrzej Duda signed an amendment to the VAT Act. Entrepreneurs will have new responsibilities, but they also have a lot to enjoy. Tax refunds will be sent much faster than before.

On Monday, President Andrzej Duda signed a package of laws, including an amendment to the VAT Act. In this way, Polish regulations were adapted to EU ones. It is primarily about imposing an obligation on entrepreneurs to electronic invoicing. In this way, according to the Council of Ministers, it will be possible to better combat crimes related to tax fraud.

Transitional period

The Act imposes on every company that is a VAT payer the obligation to register invoices using the National e-Invoice System. Only those companies that do not have a permanent seat or place of business in Poland will be exempt from this obligation.

“The act provides for the possibility of issuing electronic invoices or invoices in paper form in the period from July 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024 by taxpayers obliged to issue structured invoices, if their sales are tax-exempt or they only perform tax-exempt activities perform activities documented with simplified invoices, perform activities documented with invoices issued with the use of cash registers.

Faster tax refund

The act also includes a provision shortening the basic deadline for VAT refunds from 60 to 40 days. Condition – applies only to cases where the settlement was made using an electronic invoice.

The act will enter into force on July 1, 2024. Some of its provisions, such as those on the obligation to use electronic invoices, will come into force in different periods.
