The Polish national volleyball team will start competing at the European Championships in just a few days. After a great Nations League, ending with a medal, the White and Reds are counting on a similar success on the Old Continent. Stefano Lavarini announced the full squad that will go to Ghent for the group stage of the competition.
The Polish national volleyball team is doing great this season. Stefano Lavarini’s players were the revelation of the Nations League, finishing the VNL group stage in first place and ultimately finishing with bronze medals. It was the first medal at a world-class event in 55 years. Polish women wait much shorter for success on the Old Continent.
Stefano Lavarini revealed his cards
The Polish Volleyball Association published the list of players called up for the upcoming tournament on Monday morning. There are no surprises there. Compared to the final tournament of the Nations League, there were minor changes. Joanna Wołosz replaced Julia Nowicka, Kamila Witkowska replaced Dominika Pierzchała, and Weronika Szlagowska replaced the injured Martyna Czyrniańska. Lavarini can still count on the main players who contributed greatly to the success in Arlington – Magdalena Stysiak, Martyna Łukasik, Maria Stenzel, Agnieszka Korneluk and Magdalena Jurczyk.
The Polish women have been preparing for the tournament at the center in Spała for a week. At the same time, Nikola Grbic’s volleyball players are training in Zakopane. The quarter-finalists of the previous edition of the European Championships will fly to Ghent any day now, where they will play the group stage. The White and Reds were placed in group A, where they will face their co-hosts, the Belgians, as well as the Slovenians, Hungarians, Serbs and Ukrainians.
The composition of the Polish national volleyball team for the 2023 European Championships
The first match of the Polish women at the European Championships will take place on Friday, August 18, at 8:00 p.m. Lavarini’s volleyball team’s rivals will be Slovenia, led by former national team coach Marco Bonitta. The Italians will defend their title from two years ago.
