Polish volleyball players started the group stage of the European Championships with a victory. The Poles defeated the Czechs in three sets, and Aleksander Śliwka spoke after the match. In Interia, the host emphasized the importance of support from fans in the triumph.
The White and Reds came to North Macedonia as the clear favorites of group C. Apart from the Czech Republic, the Poles will also play against the Netherlands, the hosts, Denmark and Montenegro. The Czech team rebounded strongly from the world runners-up and bronze medalists of the last European Championships, losing easily in three sets.
Aleksander Śliwka with a message for Polish fans
According to what the representative of the national team and the captain of Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle talked about before the start of the European Championship, the Poles showed their good side in the block-defense system. That is, what they worked hard on.
– This last period was devoted to the block-defense system. We are developing patterns that we will want to use, following the example of the teams that are currently doing it the best in the world. We hope that our volleyball will be even better and it will be visible (…) The primary goal is to fight for victory in every match. And match after match you will see how we perform on the pitch and what we can achieve. The tournament is long, our goal will probably be to reach the final four in Rome. And the competition there will certainly be fierce – said Śliwka for “Wprost”.
Additionally, the host of the team addressed Polish fans in a special way. Although generally not many local volleyball fans appeared in the stands in Skopje, the national volleyball team can always count on the support of Polish fans. It was no different on Thursday evening in the capital of North Macedonia.
– It carried us very much. Already entering the arena for the warm-up, we had our own fans chanting and singing. It gives us great pride to play for the fans who followed us for so many kilometers. We are very happy about it, we want to play for all the fans of the Polish team, including those who registered at the hall in Skopje. I think that during Sunday’s match against North Macedonia, the stands will be very full, because the hosts’ fans will probably also come there – the representative of the national team told Interia.
Poland – Netherlands, when and where to watch the volleyball match?
After an impressive victory over the Czech Republic, the Poles will play their second match on Friday evening. This time, the White and Reds’ rivals will be the Dutch. The national team, which is in eleventh place in the FIVB ranking, has a big star in its ranks. It is the attacker Nimi Abdel-Aziz. Additionally, it is impossible not to mention a high-class professional, coach Roberto Piazza.
