Poland may open border crossings with Belarus. Wąsik set conditions
The deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Maciej Wąsik, declared that if the Lukashenko regime makes concessions, Poland may open some of the closed border crossings. He presented two conditions.
The deputy head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration was a guest of TVP Info. When asked about the possibility of completely closing the border crossings with Belarus, he referred to the meeting of interior ministers.
– Regardless of whether there is an incident on the Polish, Latvian or Lithuanian-Russian border, we will react in the same way as our neighbors or friends, he noted.
Maciej Wąsik about Belarus: It may be cut off from Europe
He added that there are two conditions for opening the previously closed border crossings with Belarus: getting rid of the Wagnerians and abandoning the current migration policy. – These are people experienced in fighting and murdering. If they don’t like it, the Belarusian army is so weak that they can go to Minsk, just like they went to Moscow, he noted. – It will probably be easier for them in Minsk, especially since they are closer to it now than they were to Moscow – he said about the Wagner Group.
Wąsik added that Belarus should cooperate on migration policy if it does not want to be isolated.
– But if there is no cooperation, the neighboring countries will close all crossings, not only road but also railway ones, and Belarus will de facto be cut off from Europe – he said.
On August 28, a meeting of the ministers of internal affairs of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia was held in Warsaw. The meeting was attended by Mariusz Kamiński, Agne Bilotaite, Maris Kuczinskis and Lauri Laanemets. The ministers called on the Belarusian regime to remove the Wagner Group from Belarus, withdraw all illegal migrants from the border areas and return them to their countries of origin.
He stressed that Poland must be prepared for the worst-case scenario, i.e. the use of Wagner soldiers against border guards.
