MEPs do not want agricultural products from Russia and Belarus. The vote is already over

Increases for the budget sector with compensation from January 1

MEPs supported the resolution banning the import of agri-food products from Russia and Belarus. It was announced by Donald Tusk on Monday.

441 MPs voted in favor of fully adopting the draft resolution on imposing sanctions on the import of Russian and Belarusian food and agricultural products to the EU. Nobody expressed any objection.

Donald Tusk said on Monday about the need to introduce a ban on the import of agricultural and food products from Russia and Belarus into the European Union. The first country to introduce such restrictions was Latvia. At the end of February this year, the Latvian Parliament (Saeima) decided to introduce a ban on the import of agricultural products, including feed, from Russia and Belarus, including via third countries, to Latvia.

Ban on the import of Russian and Belarusian food

The ban on the import of food products is to apply until July 1, 2025 and may be extended if necessary. The restrictions do not apply to transit.

The statement emphasized that Latvia, as a small country neighboring Russia, must become as independent as possible from its strong neighbor. “Latvia must do everything in its power to maintain peace and international security. Latvia will support Ukraine until its victory,” it was written in the preamble to the law.

Now Poland will convince the European Commission to adopt a ban applicable throughout the EU. Only this will guarantee that Russian agricultural produce, vegetables and feed will not reach the European Union market.
