He will be the new coach of Skra Bełchatów. The president confirms

This is certain – from next season, Gheorge Cretu will be the coach of PGE Skra Bełchatów. This was officially confirmed by Wiesław Deryło, the president of the club.

After many months of trouble, PGE Skra Bełchatów seems to be on the mend. While this season's results don't reflect it yet, a lot is set to change in the 2024/25 season. The club from the Łódź Voivodeship is planning major reinforcements, and one of them is to be the coach who currently leads the Slovenian national team, and previously celebrated great triumphs in another PlusLiga team.

Gheorghe Cretu will take over Skra Bełchatów

Gheorghe Cretu, because he is the one we are talking about, will become Andrea Gardini's successor. There has been speculation on this topic for a long time, and now everything has become clear thanks to the words of Wiesław Deryła. The club's president confirmed the rumors circulating in “Łódzki Sport”. The activist admits that Skra made a lot of efforts in this direction, many talks took place, and finally the Romanian was convinced.

The 54-year-old has so far become known to Polish fans thanks to his work in ZAKS Kędzierzyn-Koźle. He was there for a short time, but he still managed to win everything he could: the Polish Cup, the national championship and the Champions League. Additionally, last year he led Slovenia to the bronze medal in the Old Continent championship.

Gheorghe Cretu's important mission

Interestingly, Deryło admitted that Cretu is to be more than just a coach in Bełchatów. So far, the construction of the team's staff has been the responsibility of the sports director. Now the coach himself is also responsible for this issue. – The previous concept turned out to be incorrect and the results prove it. Cretu is already creating its concept and showing us how it should be. The director's mission has been exhausted, explained the club's president.

Recently, information appeared in the media according to which the Romanian is to receive a record contract in the history of PlusLiga in Skra. It seems that this may have been one of the factors that convinced the coach to take up the challenge.
