The day after the Ballon d’Or Gala, the future of the winner of the award became clear. Socrates – Vinicius Junior. The player has decided whether to extend his contract with Real Madrid.

The Ballon d’Or Gala took place on Monday evening. The “France Football” plebiscite was won by Lionel Messi, for whom it was his eighth statuette. Erling Haaland came second and Kylian Mbappe was third. Robert Lewandowski placed outside the top ten, in 12th place.

Other awards were also presented during the gala. The Norwegian striker of Manchester City won the statuette named after Gerd Mueller for exceptional effectiveness, distinction named after The Raymond Kopa trophy for the best young player went to Jude Bellingham, and the trophy named after Emiliano Martinez received the legendary goalkeeper Lev Yashin.

In turn, the award named after Vinicius Jr. received the Socrates Award for his involvement in charitable and social activities. A day later, after the Ballon d’Or Gala, Real Madrid announced the extension of the contract with the Brazilian. The new agreement is to be valid until 2027.

“Real Madrid and Vini Jr. have reached an agreement on extending the contract of the player, who will now be associated with the club until June 30, 2027,” we read in a statement from the club.

The Brazilian joined Real Madrid at the age of 18

The Brazilian arrived at Real Madrid in July 2018 from Flamengo Rio de Janeiro, aged just 18. The winger made his debut for Real Madrid Castilla on August 26. Over six seasons, he played 235 matches for the first team, scoring 63 goals. During this time, he won 9 championship titles: 1 Champions League, 2 Club World Cups, 1 European Super Cup, 2 leagues, 1 King’s Cup and 2 Spanish Super Cup.

In addition, he was voted the Best Young Player of the Champions League 2021-2022 and was included in the Champions League best eleven twice (2021-2022 and 2022-2023) and twice in the LaLiga dream team (2021-2022 and 2022-2023).
