Grzegorz Lato with a strong message for Fernando Santos. He pointed in one direction

Fernando Santos does not have an easy life after taking over as head coach of the Polish national team. The White-Reds do not achieve satisfactory results, which is the basis for criticism. This time the Portuguese got it from the legend – Grzegorz Lato.

The top scorer of the 1974 World Cup, one of the best offensive players in the history of the Polish national team, in the recent past the president of the Polish Football Association. Grzegorz Lato has been associated with football practically all his life. This time he decided to speak on the pages of Polsatsport.pl. Referring to the work of coach Santos.

Grzegorz Lato pointed out the mistake of the White-and-Red coach

The distinguished representative from years ago indicated what he did not like about the actions of the Portuguese coach of Poles.

– First of all, as a coach of the national team, he should go to league matches. I remember how Mr. Kazimierz Górski traveled all over Poland and caught, let me tell you, diamonds – of young boys. Jacek Gmoch and Antek Piechniczek did the same (…) Fernando Santos is not looking for players in our league, he is recruiting those who play abroad. The problem is that some of them sit on the bench or play endgames, they play a third role – admitted the top scorer of the 1974 World Cup.

Let us remind you that during the tenure of coach Fernando Santos, the Poles won only one victory in a match for points. It was a modest win (1:0) at PGE Narodowy against Albania. The other two matches of the Euro 2024 qualifiers ended in defeats, away to the Czech Republic (1:3) and a disgrace against Moldova (2:3).

On the team’s winning side, you can also add a friendly success against Germany (1:0). Although in fact this match was defended by Wojciech Szczęsny for the Poles.

Busy autumn of the Polish football team

Biało-Czerwoni will have six matches to play in the second half of 2023. The team, led by coach Santos, will play at home against the Faroe Islands (7.09) and away against Albania (10.09) during the September training camp. The next two Euro 2024 qualifiers will be played in October. First, a trip to the Faroe Islands (12.10), and then a duel at home, to erase the recent stain, with Moldova (15.10).
