Czesław Michniewicz joined the Arab league before the season. He took over Abha FC, which, following the example of other clubs, was strongly gearing up for the local top league games. Unfortunately, the Pole’s adventure did not last long. The team announced their separation from the former coach.
Czesław Michniewicz probably didn’t dream of conquering the Arab League. According to the SPL Twitter portal, which is well-informed about the Arab league, the former coach of the Polish national team lost his job. The team led by the former coach of Lech Poznań, Zagłębie Lubin and Legia Warszawa performed below expectations despite large transfers.
Czesław Michniewicz released from Abha FC
Czesław Michniewicz joined the Arab league before the season. The 53-year-old has been out of work since the end of the World Cup, which ended with defeat in the round of 16, but in June it was announced that he had been appointed coach of Abha FC. The club received, among others, Michniewicz’s former player in the national team, Grzegorz Krychowiak, as well as former Milan goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu and Karl Toko Ekambi from Olympique Lyon.
The Polish coach’s club had a very poor start to the season. In the first eight matches of the Saudi Professional League, Abha FC won twice. Six points is the total achievement, because apart from two wins, the team lost the remaining six matches. This left the Abha team in the relegation zone in 16th position in the SPL table. Michniewicz has not been able to lead the team to victory since August 28. Initially, it was speculated that he would have to talk to the club’s authorities. Ultimately, a message appeared on the Abha FC Twitter profile thanking the 53-year-old for his cooperation.
“The Abha Club board has decided to appoint coach George Timish to oversee the first team. Timish will take over this task from next Sunday. Thanks also to coach Czesław and his assistants for the effort put into the previous period,” the club wrote on Twitter.
Czesław Michniewicz’s career
Czesław Michniewicz can boast of the Polish championship with Zagłębie Lubin (2007) and Legia Warszawa (2021). Moreover, by winning the play-offs against Sweden, he introduced the Polish team to the 2022 European Championships.
