Another meeting between Tusk and farmers. “If the demands are not met, we will intensify the protest”
Another agricultural summit began on Saturday morning with the participation of Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The head of government announced that he would like to “report” his actions. Farmers are threatening to intensify their protests if their demands are not met.
The previous meeting of the government with farmers took place on February 29. The talks were attended by Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Minister of Agriculture Czesław Siekierski, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Michał Kołodziejczak and leaders of protesting groups. However, trade unionists from NSZZ “Solidarity” of Individual Farmers left after a few minutes. They no longer intend to participate in Saturday's talks. – First, let him apologize to us for beating us, and then for calling us hooligans. He is a bandit – this is what the chairman of the Podlasie Provincial Council of “Solidarity” of Individual Farmers, Andrzej Babul, said about the prime minister in an interview with “Fakt”.
– I am convinced that on Saturday, at the meeting with farmers, I will have something serious to announce when it comes to the Green Deal – Prime Minister Tusk announced on Thursday, before flying to Bucharest.
A day later, the Minister of Agriculture announced that the government had “some proposals”. – They result from conversations with farmers, as well as some considerations on what is possible to implement. I do not propose closing the borders. I don't think this is a solution because trade goes both ways. I do not propose throwing the Green Deal into the trash, but simplifying it as much as possible. As farmers say, it is supposed to be an agricultural Green Deal, announced Czesław Siekierski at a conference in Kielce.
Farmers' protest. “I count on good cooperation with the Prime Minister”
Saturday is another day of the farmers' protest. In the morning it was blocked, among others. the S7 road near the Żuławy Wschód junction. In an interview with Polsat News, Roman Kondrów, one of the representatives of the protesting farmers, admitted that the protests may be suspended. – The Prime Minister should take into account that we are closing the border with Ukraine. We are the main players in this matter now, we – farmers. I count on good cooperation with the Prime Minister. If there are specifics, we will suspend the protests or give up on them, the farmer emphasized.
– If our demands are not met, we will intensify our protest even more. The closing of the border will be stronger – said the chairman of NSZZ Rolników Indywidualnych “Solidarność”, Tomasz Obszański, in Wirtualna Polska. – We will continue to show our dissatisfaction, which is why a solution must come quickly. I believe that the Green Deal can be quickly changed and modified, there are solutions, he noted.
The agricultural summit is scheduled to start at 10:00 at the “Dialog” Social Partnership Center in Warsaw.
