Will there be a ban on smartphones in schools? A left-wing institute wants to introduce it

The Institute of Civil Affairs wants to introduce a ban on the use of smartphones in Polish schools.

Can a ban on the use of smartphones be introduced in Polish schools? This topic has been raised again in the public space. The Institute of Civil Affairs raised this issue by sending an open letter to the authorities, which touched upon the topic of introducing changes to students in Polish schools.

They want to ban smartphones in schools

ISO wrote in a letter about the need to “change digital hygiene” among children and young people. The main demand is to introduce a ban on smartphones that would apply in Polish educational institutions. The Institute wants the change to enter into force on September 1, i.e. from the beginning of the next school year.

“Phone addiction can be compared to drug addiction, and access to digital learning does not equalize opportunities among students from different backgrounds,” warns Rafał Górski, president of the Institute of Civil Affairs.

Introducing a total ban on smartphones in schools would mean that students would have to turn them off after entering the facility, and then they would be deposited in a place indicated by the management. The smartphone could be collected only after the lesson, because breaks would also be a time without such devices among students.

According to the idea of the Institute of Civil Affairs, the ban on using smartphones will apply to all students of primary and secondary schools. The only exception to this rule will be only people with disabilities or health situations requiring a telecommunications device (e.g. to call for help).
