Some people take this rule deeply to heart and eat a lot of such delicacies. Eating donuts is a kind of tradition on Fat Thursday. However, it is worth knowing home remedies that will make you feel a little lighter.
What to eat donuts on Fat Thursday?
Often, after eating one donut, the thought comes to mind: “maybe one more.” Although overeating donuts on Fat Thursday is something natural, it should be remembered that such a state is a challenge for our body. Therefore, it is worth using home remedies to overeat. What can you do to give your digestive system some relief? Here are some ways:
- Bitter tea – it is known for its properties soothing digestive ailments, including overeating. Drinking it can help eliminate unpleasant symptoms such as flatulence or heartburn by stimulating the production of digestive enzymes and supporting the functioning of the digestive system.
- Water with apple cider vinegar and honey – after a large or heavy meal, including an excess of donuts, it is worth drinking half a glass of water with a teaspoon of apple wine vinegar. You can also add honey to the mixture, which will make the drink taste better. Apple cider vinegar has a beneficial effect on our digestive system – it normalizes the functioning of the stomach through the production of gastric juices. Additionally, it accelerates metabolism and fights heartburn.
- Ginger – it is an effective ally in the fight against indigestion. It has been a known remedy for digestive problems, flatulence and nausea for years. Ginger stimulates the secretion of digestive enzymes and speeds up the digestion process, which can help break down difficult foods. However, this is not the end of the wonderful properties of ginger, there are many more. You can eat a few pieces of candied ginger or make an infusion. In the latter case, pour a teaspoon of grated, fresh ginger root into a glass of warm water. Mix everything, wait 10 minutes, strain and drink.
- Herbal teas – herbal teas such as chamomile or mint will also help you “calm down your stomach” and alleviate the discomfort caused by overeating. You can also drink verbena or St. John's wort infusion.
- Compote of dried fruits – although it is mainly associated with Christmas Eve, it is also worth drinking after eating too many donuts. Regulates digestion and improves intestinal function.
How to avoid overeating on Fat Thursday?
You can also take care in advance to avoid overeating. The easiest way would be to limit the amount of sweets, but there are other methods. To avoid stomach problems later, make sure to eat slowly. Don't rush – this rule applies to donuts as well as to all other meals. Chewing your food thoroughly will allow you to get more pleasure, but it will also be easier for you to “catch” the moment of feeling full.
Additionally, on Fat Thursday, when donuts, faworki or other sweets appear on the table, do not forget to drink water. It is necessary for the proper functioning of the digestive system. It is also worth giving up drinking sweet drinks – this will reduce the amount of calories (which you will be able to spend on eating delicious donuts).
