Vital Heynen named the future star of the Polish national team. Will he shine at the European Championship?
With the Poles, he won the World Championship in 2018, and at the end of his work with the national team, he also won the bronze medal at the European Championships (2021). Vital Heynen, because we are talking about him, revealed which Polish volleyball players have huge potential for development.
The Belgian coach is fondly remembered by fans of the Polish national team. Vital Heynen, an eccentric figure, but also with a unique ability to get the best out of his teams. Currently, he is the coach of the German women’s team, which the Polish national volleyball team played against at the recent European Championships. And it was successful, because the White and Reds defeated Niemi 3-0 in the knockout phase (1/8 finals) of the tournament.
Vital Heynen in special words about Tomasz Fornal
Poles have been waiting for the gold medal at the European Championships since 2009. It was the only such success in the history of the fight for the Old Continent championship for the White and Reds. How will it be this year? It’s hard to say for sure, but the world runner-up team (2022) certainly has huge potential.
When asked about who can develop in the Polish team, Heynen, just like Aleksander Śliwka has done over the years, mentioned two figures, particularly appreciating one of them. It so happens that he bet on two volleyball players from Jastrzębski Węgiel.
– I would mention Norbert Huber and Tomasz Fornal here. I even consider the latter a more complete player than Bartosz Kurek. Tomek is an amazing talent and his time will come. Fornal is the most versatile player I know. I remember once in training I set him up to play. Even though he is a receiver, he did so well that his team won the training game. Over time, Tomek will gain even more stability – complimented Heynen in a text by Edyta Kowalczyk from Onet / “Przegląd Sportowy”.
