This motorhome was refined by experts from Westphalia. It impresses with functionality and drive
Ford presented the new generation of Nuggett. The camper using the new Transit and Tourneo Custom platform differs from its predecessor not only in appearance, but also offers new, functional solutions.
The new Ford motorhome was created in cooperation with experts from Westfalia. The car uses a new platform, introduced this year for the Transit family and Tourneo Custom. Thanks to it, new, advanced design solutions, communication and driving assistance systems could be used in the Nugget. In the residential zone, users will find higher quality finishing materials and better functionality. Now they will be able to power an electrical device with energy from the solar roof.
Higher comfort of use
Ford has taken great advantage of the luxurious cabin design of the new Tourneo Custom, which is why the motorhome receives the highest level of finish and quality materials, and passenger comfort has been significantly improved. The new shape of the dashboard and the flat floor facilitate the transition from the two front seats to the living area; a passenger airbag mounted in the ceiling contributed to a better layout of the cockpit. The lower floor and integrated side step make it easier to get in and load, while the largest-in-class openings for the sliding side doors and rear cargo area make it easier to use the car.
New media on board
The cockpit features a fully digital instrument cluster and a large 13-inch touchscreen; Finding your destination, enjoying entertainment and staying in touch with the world is easy with the latest Ford SYNC 4 software. Cloud-connected navigation, audio and communication functions can be controlled via the touch screen or natural voice commands, and the wireless connection of Android Auto smartphones and Apple Carplay is standard.
Now it is available with a plug-in hybrid
For the first time, a PHEV powertrain can be ordered on a Nugget model. This version is equipped with a 2.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine, an 11.8 kWh (usable) traction battery and an electric motor, giving a total power of 232 hp and the ability to run on electric power only. For people who actively spend time outdoors, a variant with four-wheel drive has been prepared. The new model also featured an upgraded eight-speed automatic transmission.
New chassis and more assistance systems
Particular attention has been paid to making the new Nugget safe and easy to drive. The car has many advanced driver assistance systems. Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering and Stop & Go help reduce fatigue on long motorway journeys or in traffic jams, while Reversing Emergency Brake Assist and Active Park Assist with 360-degree camera system help the driver to increase confidence when maneuvering in tight spaces.
Improved living space
The living space has been completely redesigned taking into account the popular layout, dividing the interior into different zones, living, sleeping and kitchen. Ford also took care of such equipment elements as: heated swivel seats for the driver and passenger, a heated rear sofa with three seats (so five people can comfortably travel in the motorhome) and new audio system speakers and USB-C sockets as standard for passengers sitting in the second row.
New refrigerator and serial water heater
In the living space we will now find a drawer fridge. Thanks to the new integrated hob and sink – now equipped with a standard water heater – the uncluttered space provides 20% more dedicated space on kitchen countertops. Soft-closing locks and pull-out cabinet handles protect children’s fingers and reduce noise while driving.
Shower with hot water as standard
The new car features a lift-up mattress section to increase headroom in the kitchen and keep the upper bed in place. It also features a rail-mounted rear seat with new controls that transform it into a bed with just one hand. A hot and cold shower in the rear of the car is now standard, with a tailgate-mounted tent available as an option to provide cover while showering. The possibilities for expanding the space during the bivouac have been extended with completely new features, including: a pop-up roof with a new self-folding material that makes it easier to lower the roof, new integrated storage for the standard bivouac table and chairs, and impermeable blinds.
Optional photovoltaic panel
The new Nugget also offers advanced systems to improve communication on the road and comfort after parking. Wireless inductive charging and a standard 5G modem allow you to enjoy entertainment and communicate with the world without worrying about the phone battery draining or interruption in data access. An optional rooftop photovoltaic panel helps to power the indoor installation or charge the battery for all outdoor devices, and in ideal weather conditions can generate more energy than the built-in systems consume.
Easier control of residential systems
A dedicated 7-inch color touchscreen in the seating area allows for easy control and monitoring of the heating, water level, battery level and lighting of the new Nugget. New features include: control of the new advanced LED interior lighting, including adjustable color mood lighting, an inclinometer function, facilitates leveling on uneven ground and a Bluetooth-enabled app turns a smartphone into a remote control for cab functions.
