The General Staff of the Polish Army announced the results of the competition for the name of the Polish F-35 fighter. The name with a historical flavor won.
Of the five name proposals for the Polish F-35 fighters, the name Husarz won in the Internet users' vote. Apart from it, the following names took part in the competition: Halny, Harpia, Dracarys and Duch.
Flying Hussars in the Polish army
A hussar is a type of light cavalry that was popular in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The hussars were famous for their bravery and fighting skills.
The choice of the name Husarz for the Polish F-35 fighter has a historical and symbolic character. The hussars were one of the most effective military formations in the history of Poland.
The F-35 – or rather Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II – is a fifth-generation multi-role fighter aircraft with reduced detectability. It was designed and manufactured by the American company Lockheed Martin. At this point, it is the most modern and advanced fighter in the world.

The F-35 was designed as part of an international research and development program called Joint Strike Fighter, which aimed to build a machine that would meet the requirements of all types of armed forces. The program was carried out under the direction of the American corporation Lockheed Martin in a consortium with Northrop Grumman and BAE Systems, with the participation of enterprises and scientific institutions from seven other countries.
