The Black Tower in downtown Manhattan. The new skyscraper will stand out from the Empire State Building
MAD Architects showed the design of a new skyscraper that aims to soften the New York skyline. The slender skyscraper will contrast with New York’s buildings.
A new skyscraper will be built on a plot of land near the Empire Old Building, which will contrast with the iconic Art Deco building. On East 34th Street, in the central part of Manhattan, developer Caerus Group intends to implement a bold project. The tower, designed by the MAD architectural studio, will be covered with black glass, and its form will be light, twisting and slender. This is a big change from the angular, symmetrical buildings of Manhattan.
East 34th will be 232 meters high, so it will not dominate the Empire State Building, which is 381 meters high. However, its form will be distinctive enough not to be lost in the surrounding landscape. The building will be another of the towers being created in New York, which will be built on a very narrow plot. This is a trend that has dominated the American city for several years. Developers compete with each other in building interesting projects on very demanding plots.
Apartments and shops
For over 11 thousand m2 that the new skyscraper will provide, mainly luxury apartments will be built. The architects also designed several of the lowest floors so that they could serve as service and commercial functions. It is expected that exclusive boutiques will be built there.
