Years ago, Polish fans had the opportunity to watch matches of the Polish volleyball team at the National Stadium. The unflagging popularity of volleyball on the Vistula River means that there are constant voices about re-organizing the match at the largest sports facility in the country. PLS president Artur Popko does not rule out that the best clubs of the domestic league will play there in the coming years.
Polish volleyball has had a very good season. Nikola Grbic’s players won the Nations League, the European Championship, and the Olympic qualifications. Stefano Lavarini’s volleyball players won VNL bronze and second place (also rewarded with promotion) during the qualifying tournament in Łódź.
Polish volleyball can return to the National Stadium
Additionally, Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle won the Champions League for the third time in a row, beating Jastrzębski Węgiel in the historic (first) Polish final. Volleyball on the Vistula River is doing well, which is reflected in its great popularity and attendance in the stands during national team matches.
The president of the Polish Volleyball League, Artur Popko, gave a statement to TVP Sport in which he referred to rumors regarding possible meetings at PGE Narodowy. According to the helmsman of the organization managing women’s and men’s competitions at the highest level, it is possible for the leading Polish clubs to play in Warsaw for several dozen thousand spectators. This will not happen immediately, as organizing such an event would involve great costs and the need for advance planning.
– Nevertheless, it is a longer rather than shorter perspective, but still realistic. There is a plan, there is an idea. It’s still too early to talk openly about it and provide details. PGE Narodowy has already proven itself during national team matches. We will definitely make sure to use this facility again. However, the Silesian Stadium in Chorzów is out of the question. We will focus on Warsaw, Popko said.
