Polish basketball players are still in the game for the Olympics! A successful performance by the White and Reds

This is the Polish basketball team we want to see. In Monday’s prequalification match for the Olympic Games in Paris (2024), the White and Reds beat the team of Bosnia and Herzegovina 85:76. It was a show of solid basketball performed by Poles.

After Sunday’s victory over Hungary (83:81), Polish fans may have had some doubts about the disposal of the team led by coach Igor Milicic. The White-and-Reds were able to waste the advantage of 15 points to tremble for the result with a much lower ranked rival until the very end. At least that’s what it looked like on paper, although actually, it’s… winners shouldn’t be judged.

Michał Sokołowski and Mateusz Ponitka show in Arena Gliwice

Bosnia and Herzegovina is certainly at least two shelves higher in terms of the sports potential of the rival, compared to Hungary. Monday’s opponents of Poles in their ranks have m.in. Dzanan Musa and Yusuf Nurkic. Luka Garza is also a big character. To realize the seriousness of the situation, we are talking about basketball players who play or played in the NBA on a daily basis. And if not, they are the leading figures in the strongest European leagues, for example in Spain.

The White and Reds in the prequalification phase have to deal with, among others: without our only son from the NBA. Jeremy Sochan has finally stayed in the United States and is preparing for the season with the San Antonio Spurs. However, the team led by coach Milicic has its leaders. On Monday, the two most brilliant were Michał Sokołowski and Mateusz Ponitka. However, we have to commend practically every one of our players.

The Poles played very ambitiously, with faith in victory. The game had its drama. For example, in the middle of the second quarter, the Poles had a lead of 38:25, and a moment later it was only 40:36. A minute before the end, the Biało-Czerwoni, after Sokołowski’s three-pointer, who had already scored 19 points at that time, again came out on a “safe” score of 46:36.

A great performance by the Polish national team in three-point throws

It got dangerous again in the third quarter, when Milicic had to ask for time, when the Biało-Czerwoni was leading only 57:54. And again, the right arrangement, a nice change of Andrzej Pluta and on the scoreboard 64:54 in favor of the hosts.

The fans in Arena Gliwice once again did not allow their rivals to come close to the result. It is worth noting that on Monday the Poles actually hit every second three-point throw. The score 76:55 was scored by captain Ponitka, throwing the fourteenth three-pointer to the account of the Poles. At that time, the hosts were already leading by 21 points.

In the end, the Bosnians came even closer to the Poles, slightly improving the result. Unfortunately, unnecessary losses and nervousness of the Poles appeared again. It ended at 85:76. Ultimately, after two matches, the White-and-Reds have a set of victories. The road to the Olympic tournament is still long, in the prequalification you have to go through several parts, but it’s always better to win than to lose. Therefore, Poles will start Wednesday’s match against Portugal in good moods, again in Arena Gliwice.
