Poles chose the best president in history. A clear winner
Who was the best popularly elected president after 1989? This question was asked in a SW Research survey for rp.pl. As it turns out, the winner is clear.
In 2024, Poles will vote in local elections, then they will elect MEPs, and in 2025 – the president. This is the last term of office of Andrzej Duda, so the exchange of names of who PiS can nominate in the presidential elections is already underway. Similarly on the opposition side, where the names of Rafał Trzaskowski and Szymon Hołownia appear most often.
However, participants in the SW Research survey for rp.pl were asked not who would be the best candidate, but who was the best president elected in the general elections after 1989. As it turns out, the winner is clear. Aleksander Kwaśniewski was chosen by almost 35 percent. respondents, and the second one – Andrzej Duda – 14 percent. Another 13 percent said that Lech Kaczyński was the best president, and 7.4 percent chose Lech Wałęsa. The worst news in the poll comes from Bronisław Komorowski, who was considered the best president by only 5 percent. subjects.
A large group (11.7 percent of respondents) did not evaluate any of the current presidents positively. However, 14 percent respondents had no opinion on this matter.
Kwaśniewski the best president?
Aleksander Kwaśniewski held the office of president from 1995 to 2005. In the 1995 elections, he defeated Lech Wałęsa, who was running for re-election, and five years later he won in the first round. In 1999, he ratified Poland's accession to NATO, and in 2003 he headed the Polish delegation that signed the accession treaty to the European Union in Athens.
– The indication of Aleksander Kwaśniewski as the best president increases with age (up to 24 years old – 12%, over 50 years old – 45%) and education level (41% of people with higher education believe that Aleksander Kwaśniewski was the best Polish president after 1989) . Similarly, among the wealthiest people, President Kwaśniewski is more often indicated as the best (43%) – said Wiktoria Maruszczak from SW Research in an interview with rp.pl.
