NBP buys gold. There has never been so much in the treasury

The National Bank of Poland increases its gold resources. Over the last month, the treasury has increased by over 6%. more metal. This year, the central bank purchased as many as 105 tons of gold, worth PLN 28 billion.

The gold rush in the National Bank of Poland continues. According to the announcements of the President of the NBP, Adam Glapiński, gold reserves are constantly increasing. In September, treasury resources increased to 10.729 million ounces from 10.108 million ounces in August. This means an increase of 6.1%. within one month. At the same time, the bank announced that at the end of last year there were 7.352 million ounces in the treasury, so this year our gold resources have increased by as much as 45.9%.

Gold at the National Bank of Poland

In August, Polish official gold reserves most likely exceeded British reserves. According to IMF data, at the end of July, Great Britain had 310.3 tons of gold and this amount has remained unchanged for years. If the British did not buy additional gold, they fell behind Poland in these statistics.

– We are a very serious partner and we will continue to buy gold. The dream is to reach 20%. – admitted the President of the National Bank of Poland, Adam Glapiński, at a press conference.

Which banks have the most gold?

The Financial Observer website calculates that in 2022, central banks purchased a total of 1,136 tons of the royal ore. The central banks that bought the most of it include the central banks of developing economies, i.e. Turkey (148 tons), China (62 tons) and Egypt (47 tons).

The largest gold reserves were held by the central banks of the United States, Germany, Italy, France and Russia. In addition to national central banks, gold is also held by the European Central Bank, which at the end of 2022 had approximately 506 tons of this metal.

In the European Union, Poland is the eighth country in terms of gold reserves. Poland was in 8th place in the EU ranking with 228 tons of gold. However, we are the leader in the region. Romania comes second in this ranking with 103 tonnes, followed by Hungary with 94 tonnes.
