Lewis Hamilton has decided on the future. It’s official!
Lewis Hamilton is one of the most successful F1 drivers. He has been with Mercedes since 2013 and has finally decided on his future. Previously, there was talk of a transfer to Red Bull.
Lewis Hamilton is a seven-time F1 world champion. The Briton has been defending the colors of Mercedes since 2013, to which he joined from MCLaren. During this time, he won six World Championship trophies for the German team in 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. Hamilton won his first championship title in 2008.
Lewis Hamilton has decided on the future
The 38-year-old still plays for Mercedes, and after thirteen races in the 2023 season, Lewis Hamilton is in fourth place and 173 points behind the defending champion Max Verstappen from Red Bull. Since joining the team, Lewis has achieved 82 wins and 78 pole positions, becoming the most successful driver in the history of the sport. The extension of the contract ensures the continuation of cooperation between the most successful team and driver in the history of Formula 1 for at least 13 years.
Team representatives delivered great news to their fans. Lewis Hamilton has extended his contract until 2025. “We dream every day to be the best, and together we have dedicated the last decade to achieving this goal. Being at the top doesn’t happen overnight or in a short period of time, it requires commitment, hard work and sacrifice, and it was an honor that we could make history with this amazing team,” he said in the club’s media.
“We’ve never been so hungry for wins. We have learned from every success, but also from every failure. We continue to chase our dreams, fight no matter what the challenges, and we will win again. I am grateful to the team who supported me both on and off the track. Our story is not finished, we are determined to achieve more together and we will not stop until we do it,” he added.
Team Director: It was a simple decision
The second Mercedes driver is Hamilton’s compatriot – George Russell, with whom it was also decided to extend the contract. Cooperation between the player and the team began in 2017. Following his stints at Williams, he was promoted to partner Lewis Hamilton in 2022 and took his first Grand Prix victory at last year’s São Paulo Grand Prix.
Toto Wolff, general director and team leader, also commented on these moves. “It was an easy decision to continue with our current driver line-up. We have the strongest pair on the grid and both drivers play a key role in the team to push us forward. The strength and stability they provide will be key elements of our future success,” he said.
“Our partnership with Lewis is one of the most successful in the history of the sport. The fact that we will continue to be together has always been a formality – and the public confirmation of this is energizing for all of us,” he emphasized.
“George is a leading figure of his generation. He has repaid the faith we showed in him by promoting him to a race seat in 2022,” he concluded. The 14th race of this Formula 1 season will take place at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza during the Italian Grand Prix.
