Legia punished for the match against AZ Alkmaar. UEFA has made a decision

UEFA imposed further penalties on Legia Warszawa. As reported by Szymon Jańczyk from the “Wełości” website, the European federation has decided that one of the stands at the Wojskowe stadium will be closed for the first match of the European Conference League against Norwegian Molde. This is not the end of bad news for the Legionnaires.

Legia Warszawa was punished for the riots in Birmingham and is still waiting for the resolution of the dispute in connection with the situation that occurred after the first match against AZ Alkmaar. The military team secured promotion to the knockout phase of the European Conference League, but they still feel the effects of misunderstandings that occurred before or after their matches.

Media: UEFA punished Legia Warszawa for the match against AZ Alkmaar

On Thursday, December 14, Legia Warszawa won against AZ Alkmaar 2-0 in front of its own audience, thanks to which it advanced to the 1/16 finals of the Europa Conference League. Even before the match started, the famous “Żyleta”, i.e. the stadium sector at ul. Łazienkowska 3 in Warsaw, where Legia’s most ardent fans sit, presented a setting using pyrotechnics. There was also a banner with the inscription: “The dogs are barking, the caravan is moving on.”

The penalty of closing the northern stand for one match, which was imposed on Wojskowy on September 13, has been suspended. Due to the repetition of the situation, UEFA took decisive action against the club’s fanatics. As reported by Szymon Jańczyk from “Wełość”, UEFA sent a letter to the Warsaw team, which states that the match against Molde in the 1/16 finals of the Europa Conference League will take place without the participation of “Żyleta”.

This is not the end of the Legionnaires’ problems. They will be forced to pay a high financial penalty. Setting off the pyrotechnics will cost them PLN 40,000. euro fine. As if that wasn’t enough, the next 10,000 Legia Warszawa received euros for “provocative and offensive” shouts from fans. Moreover, if Kosta Runjaic’s players defeat Molde in the next phase of the Europa Conference League, they will not be able to count on their fans from “Żyleta” in the quarterfinals either.
