Iga Świątek's unexpected problem. She forgot the Polish language

Iga Świątek started the WTA Finals successfully. Despite initial problems, the Polish woman defeated the winner of Wimbledon 2023, Marketa Vondrousova, winning the second set without losing a game. After the match, the Pole unexpectedly forgot her native language, not hiding her surprise.

Iga Świątek approaches this year’s WTA Finals from the perspective of the winner of the competition in Beijing. The Pole has never won the season-ending competition, which may be additional motivation for her. He has already played his first match of the tournament in Cancun, Mexico. The tennis player from Raszyn defeated Markete Vondrousova, the winner of Wimbledon 2023.

Iga Świątek forgot the Polish language after the match

Świątek won 7:6, 6:0, although she lost 2:5 in the first set. The Pole once again showed great mental strength, making up for the losses and turning the fate of the first game to her advantage. In turn, in the second set she showed dominance again, not allowing her opponent to say anything at all. Winning to zero in such an elite event only proves good preparation.

After the meeting, the Pole, as usual, gave a short statement on the court. During it, she was asked to address her compatriots in the stands in Cancun. Świątek eagerly took advantage of the opportunity, but at some point she was speechless. She joked that she spoke so much English that she forgot her native language.

– I really want to thank everyone for coming. As usual, there are the most Polish fans, so that also gives me motivation to go out even… God, I forgot the word in Polish. I speak too much English on a daily basis… to count on a 2:5 result. Once again, thank you very much for your support and for being here. And I hope you will be there by the end of the week, said Świątek.

Iga Świątek continues to play in the WTA Finals group stage

Iga Świątek’s next rival in the WTA Finals group stage will most likely be Coco Gauff (according to Canal+ Sport), who lost only a game in the clash with another upcoming opponent of the Pole, Ons Jabeur.
