Robert Lewandowski may be disappointed. The Pole was low in the Ballon d’Or plebiscite
On Monday evening, we will meet the best football player in the world in 2023 according to “France Football”. Robert Lewandowski will certainly not receive the legendary Ballon d’Or. The Pole was outside the top ten of the ranking.
As reported a few minutes after 7 p.m., the Polish striker took only 12th place in the classification of the race for the title of the best footballer in the world in 2023. Compared to previous years, Robert Lewandowski unexpectedly fell out of the top ten in the “France Football” plebiscite.

Lionel Messi is the favorite to win. The Argentine currently plays for Inter Miami, continuing his career in the United States. If Messi wins, he will win his eighth Ballon d’Or in his career. Interestingly, the winner from last year, Karim Benzema, was behind Lewandowski in this year’s ranking. The Frenchman only took sixteenth place.
One can suspect that, as every year, there will be controversy. This can be seen, for example, in relation to the captain of the Polish national team. RL9 was included, among others, behind Mohamed Salah’s back. The Egyptian did not achieve any spectacular success either in national colors or as a player of the English Liverpool. For comparison, Lewandowski scored 36 goals in all competitions in the 2022/23 season, adding the Spanish champion title and the Super Cup.
Has a Pole ever won the Ballon d’Or?
In the history of the plebiscite, which has been organized since 1956, no Polish footballer has won. Apart from Robert Lewandowski (2021), second in the classification, Kazimierz Deyna (1974) and Zbigniew Boniek (1982) also stood on the podium. Both outstanding members of the Polish national team took third positions. Let us add that these were two editions in which the White and Reds stood on the podium of the world championships.
Lewandowski, apart from second place two years ago, was also fourth in 2015. Interestingly, Messi also triumphed then. The 2023 Ballon d’Or gala starts on Monday evening (i.e. October 30) at 9:00 p.m. The event will be broadcast live on TVP Sport and on the station’s website and mobile application.
