The Office of Rail Transport (UTK) presented data on the punctuality of trains in the second quarter of 2023. It turns out that between April and June, 91.1 percent reached the final station on time. passenger trains, with delays of more than 5 minutes 59 seconds. This represents an increase of 0.2 percentage points. compared to the first quarter of this year.

The highest level of punctuality of passenger trains in the second quarter of this year was recorded in April (92.4%). In the following months, this ratio decreased to 91.8 percent. in May and 89.1 percent. in June.

The highest punctuality rate in the second quarter of this year was recorded by PKP Fast Urban Railway in Tricity sp. z oo (98.5%). The main long-distance carrier – “PKP Intercity” SA achieved the punctuality level of 73.5%, which is a result of 0.5 percentage points more than in the previous year. worse than in the first quarter of this year.
UTK reports that in the second quarter of this year over 333 cases of delays exceeding 120 minutes were recorded. This list is dominated by reasons related to rolling stock, such as repair or replacement due to failure. In the second place, there were causes related to accidents (suicides and accidents involving people).
Punctuality of freight trains
The Office also presented data on the punctuality of freight trains in the second quarter of this year. In this period, 53.6% of passengers reached the final station on time. such trains. This represents an increase of 5.1 percentage points. compared to the previous quarter.
The highest punctuality was recorded in May (55%). The average delay of a freight train was 613 minutes. Of the 48,808 delayed trains, 73% were those whose delay was at least 120 minutes.
Data published by UTK in early April show that in 2022 the level of punctuality of trains was 88.6%. This is a result of almost 1.5 percentage points. worse than in 2021 and by as much as 6 percentage points. worse than in 2020.
