Deputy Prime Minister: We are suspending the “Laptop for students” program
Today we are suspending the “Laptop for a student” program to give a chance for a new, great “Digital student” program in the future, where no one will be harmed – announced the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Digital Affairs, Krzysztof Gawkowski on Thursday. The politician informed that there was a violation of criminal regulations during the tender for the purchase of laptops.
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Digitization Krzysztof Gawkowski, during a joint press conference with the Minister of Education Barbara Nowacka, emphasized that the “Laptop for students” program cannot be continued in this formula.
Gawkowski on the suspension of the “Laptop for students” program
– Today we are suspending the “Laptop for a student” program to give a chance for a new, great “Digital student” program in the future, where no one will be harmed – Gawkowski said.
The tender for the purchase of laptops under the “Laptop for a student” program has been carried out since October 2022. The Deputy Prime Minister said that “everything indicates that criminal provisions were violated during the tender.”
– Corruption situations could have occurred, and therefore, in a confidential manner – because we received such information during the audit – a report will be submitted to the prosecutor’s office, which will concern the possibility of committing a crime during this tender – announced the head of the Ministry of Digital Affairs.
– We will not hide anything, we will only reveal everything about this matter. No more lies, no more stories about the program being well prepared and the money secured – added.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized during the conference that there is also “good information” and announced the launch of a new format. It is the “Digital Student” program.
– It was agreed and partly discussed inter-ministry with the Minister of Finance, Mr. Domański, who, like us, believes that we should continue such programs, but do it wisely, in accordance with the law and without the prospect of having to report something to the prosecutor’s office – Gawkowski emphasized.
The Deputy Prime Minister talked about the mess surrounding the “Laptop for a student” program earlier this week in an interview for TVN24.
– A mess and a big misunderstanding when it comes to settling this program from 2023. This is the smallest nutshell of what happened. There was no money, it was spent on credit, it is not known what happened to it or how it was used. We don’t know what laptops were bought and we don’t know what their redistribution was at the end – said the head of the Ministry of Digital Affairs in “Rozmowa Piaseckiego”.
