One of the most famous Polish computer game creators published screenshots of his industry colleague’s conversations on his Facebook account. As he emphasized, we have never seen anything like this in Poland.

On Monday, June 17, Adrian Chmielarz posted an unusual entry on his Facebook account. He usually uses this medium for issues related to game development or shares culinary discoveries with Internet users. This time, however, he decided to publicize the unethical behavior of one of the representatives of his industry.

“The lady is looking for a job, the guy offers her, she says he has already contacted her, but she was not satisfied with the requirement, attention, a naked session in the sauna. I rubbed my eyes, thinking, okay, I must have imagined something, if I read further, it will become clear that this is some kind of mistake. I read further, and the guy explains that in order to play the game, the babes have to understand what different types of saunas are, and besides, “his narration girls” “had to go to the sauna with him” in order to write great scenes… So I “it was not expected,” he briefly described the case.

He further emphasized that he did not agree with the idea that the creator must experience anything personally, and gave as an example works referring to the rescue of Jews from the hands of Nazis during World War II. He also noted that his employees can go to the sauna on their own. “To be fair, the guy mentions that he can organize a ‘female only event’, but it sounds like an ‘option for the whiny,’ instead of being the default and only option,” he noted.

He also drew attention to further exchanges between the game creator and the woman to whom he proposed employment. During the conversation, the man said that the writer should write him a trial version of the sauna scene for free, instead of “tormenting him in social circles.” “Meanwhile, the employment requirements clearly state that sauna sessions are a ‘non-negotiable obligation’,” Chmielarz noted.

He also mentioned another unethical behavior. The described man allegedly referred to a representative of the industry – Magdalena Kucenty, who was neither his collaborator nor knew anything about it. “The guy’s name is Jacek Piórkowski, it’s worth remembering so that you know who not to shake hands with,” Chmielarz said.

Blogger and activist Anna Tess Gołębiowska also added her comment on the matter. “Another layer of irony is that Jacek Piórkowski declares that his game will be inspired by the plot of ‘Life is Strange.’ Well, it’s a great game, but at the same time full of triggers – it warns, among other things, against sexual harassment by an authority figure,” she pointed out.

Comment by the creator involved in the case

Magdalena Kucenty, who was involved in the scandal, also posted her own comment on social media. “Yesterday it turned out that one of my former students from the Narrative Design course, Jacek Piórkowski, was spreading my name left and right, trying to recruit people in an absolutely unacceptable way. Jacek actually contacted me about his project and I promised that I would be happy to read it and take a look at the narrative layer – both out of teaching duty and curiosity,” she wrote.

“But I am NOT his employee. I am a former mentor – Jacek is not the only person whom I helped a bit after hours, some students send me texts that they write as part of the recruitment processes and I read them completely for free. Because I care about my students, because I really want to teach and help. But here it kicked me in the face,” she concluded.
