Could Ukraine start peace talks with Russia? The president’s adviser gave three conditions
Peace between Ukraine and Russia still seems a distant prospect. Mykhailo Podolak’s latest words do not seem to bring hope in this aspect.
Ukraine is in no hurry to enter into peace negotiations with Russia, as evidenced by the conditions presented by President Volodymyr Zelensky’s adviser, Mykhailo Podolak. On Saturday, January 20, he listed the points that must be met to resume talks between Kiev and Moscow.
Podolak: Russia must suffer a global defeat
In an interview for “Ukraińska Pravda”, Podolak emphasized that the moment for negotiations with the Russians is extremely unfavorable. – What can we talk to them about now? When they didn’t suffer tactical, significant defeats on the battlefield? That we are willing to give them time to prepare for the next stage of the war? – asked Zelensky’s adviser.
The Ukrainian emphasized that the powerful neighbor must suffer a “global defeat” for bringing it to the negotiating table to make any sense. He also explained what this term means. – The Russian Federation will no longer be able to dominate not only in Europe, but in the global political process in general – he said.
– The Russian Federation will not have the funds for this, it will not be able to use this or that right, for example the right of veto in the UN Security Council. N will not have the support of a number of other authoritarian countries because it will be considered a country that lost the war, he further explained.
What will be needed for Russia’s global defeat?
Podolak also gave three conditions without which this global failure will not occur. — The first is Russia’s tactical defeat in Ukraine. The second is the effective operation of sanctions when European companies finally leave the markets of the Russian Federation. And the third element is the beginning of the trials in Russia that we saw in the summer of 2023, when the rebellion was incited by Prigozhin. Then we may witness a significant internal social conflict in the Russian Federation, he concluded.
