Aryna Sabalenka challenged Iga Świątek. She made it clear
Aryna Sabalenka does not intend to rest on her laurels. In the latest interview, she challenged Iga Świątek and the world’s leading tennis players. Her words leave no doubt.
Iga Świątek’s defeat in the fourth round of the US Open meant that Aryna Sabalenka lost her position as the leader of the WTA world ranking. The Belarusian reached the final of the Grand Slam competition, where she was defeated by Coco Gauff, but it did not change anything. Soon we will see her on the courts for the first time since the mentioned tournament, and it will take place in Beijing. Iga Świątek, who was challenged by the Minsk player, will also play there.

Although the Belarusian said she was happy that she had finally achieved her dream goal, she was not entirely satisfied with the way it happened. She dreamed of a direct duel with Iga Świątek to become the leader of the WTA world ranking. – I spent the whole year playing well, pushing her, but I didn’t want to become number one like that, I wanted to fight a real battle with her – said the 25-year-old from Minsk after the US Open.
Now she proudly holds the number one and there is no indication that she will give it up anytime soon. Especially since her biggest rival, Iga Świątek, is not in the best form, which she confirmed when she lost to Wieronika Kudiermietowa in the quarterfinals of the WTA 500 tournament in Tokyo. Sabalenka is also already in Beijing, where she appeared at a press conference. She made it clear that being at the top of the WTA rankings was not the end of the job for her. Now he plans to keep it that way for as long as possible.
– I am still motivated to achieve great things, no matter how difficult it was for me to reach the top, I am not going to give up now or lose the will to work. I want to finish this season as the best player in the world and stay in that position as long as possible. Every time I achieve a goal, I set a new one for myself, said the Belarusian at a press conference.
