Anti-doping scandal in Ekstraklasa?  Club members face severe punishment

The Polish Anti-Doping Agency announced that the player and a representative of the staff of the Ekstraklasa club – Radomiak Radom are suspected of violating anti-doping regulations. They face a long sentence.

Some time ago, Bartosz Salamon was suspended and is still waiting for a verdict on doping. Let us recall that last season, after the first quarter-final match of the Europa Conference League against ACF Fiorentina, an illegal substance was detected in the body of a Lech Poznań defender. Recently, he was asked to appear in person at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon. The purpose of this visit was to clarify the matter, and according to media findings, the stopwatch was to answer additional questions. Now the Polish Anti-Doping Agency is conducting an investigation into one of the PKO BP Ekstraklasa clubs.

POLADA: The club’s representatives are not currently suspended

On the X platform (formerly Twitter), the Polish Anti-Doping Agency informed that there may have been a violation of anti-doping rules by representatives of the Radomiak Radom club. “One of the players and one of the staff representatives are suspected of violating the provisions of Art. 2.5 of the POLADA 2021 Anti-Doping Rules, i.e. Manipulation or attempt to manipulate by an athlete or other person any part of anti-doping control,” we read.

The Polish Anti-Doping Agency also informed that it had received the club’s explanations on this matter. “They will be analyzed. Currently, the player and the staff member are not suspended,” we read.

What are the consequences for them?

According to the findings of the journalists of “Przegląd Sportowy” Onet, it is supposed to be Luiz Gustavo Novaes Palhares, i.e. Luizao and sports director Octawian Moraru. If an attempt at manipulation is proven, the penalty may result in disqualification of up to 4 years.

“The suspected violation of the regulations occurred on October 5, 2023, during an anti-doping control carried out during training. All laboratory results are negative for the presence of prohibited substances in the players’ bodies,” we read.

After 13 matches this season of Ekstraklasa, Radomiak Radom is in eighth place with eighteen points. The club will play its next match against Legia Warszawa, which has been having a worse time lately. The Military are in sixth place in the table with twenty points after twelve matches.
