Another change at the head of the Ukrainian army. Volodymyr Zelensky has made a decision

President Zelensky has appointed a new head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reports the Russian independent news portal Meduza.

Major General Anatoly Bargilevich became the new head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). President Volodymyr Zelensky announced his decision via a broadcast video call.

Gen. Bargiliewicz commanded the Territorial Defense Forces of Ukraine

Meduza reminds that his predecessor in this position was Serhiy Shaptala. Gen. Bargilewicz has experience, among others, as head of the Territorial Defense Forces of Ukraine.

Zelenskiy recommended the candidacy of General Bargilevich to Oleksandr Syrski, the new commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who replaced General Valery Zaluzhny in this position. “He is an experienced man who understands the tasks of this war and the goals of Ukraine,” Zelensky said in an interview with the Ukrainian website RDC.

Decisions on filling the positions of their deputies will be made soon. Volodymyr Zelensky will announce details soon. At this point, he only revealed that these are people “ready to fight.” “These are professionals, each with a clear understanding of the front lines and the real needs of Ukrainian soldiers,” said the president of Ukraine.

The new commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian forces is a veteran of the fights against the Russians in Donbas

As we reported on February 8, General Syrski – the new commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian forces, previously was the commander of the Ukrainian land forces. He is 58 years old. He started working in the army during the Soviet Union. Syrski is, among others, a veteran of the fights against the Russians in Donbas. In the first weeks of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the general commanded the defense of the Ukrainian capital.

After taking up his new position, there were voices that General Syrski was not necessarily a good choice. Journalists from Ukrainska Pravda wrote that he was a commander “for whom the completion of tasks is more important than the number of human lives sacrificed for it.”
