Another bagel by Iga Świątek at the US Open. In the match against Kaja Juvan she was almost flawless

In the third round of the US Open, Iga Świątek faced Kaja Juvan. The favorite in this match was the first racket in the world, but she had to be careful not to get distracted and not to stumble.

Iga Świątek, the defending champion, successfully reached the third round of this year’s US Open. In the first round, she defeated Rebecca Peterson 6-0 in less than an hour, then 6-1. Her next opponent, Daria Saville, caused her more problems, but she still managed to win 6:3, 6:4.

Another bagel by Iga Świątek at the US Open

In the third match of the US Open, the first racket in the world faced Kai Juvan, the 145th racket in the world. On the way, the qualifier defeated Elisabetta Cocciaretto, seeded 29, and Lauren Davis, seeded 50. Even though her opponent was ranked lower, Iga Świątek had to be very focused, because any slip up could be exploited by Aryna Sabalenka, who put pressure on our tennis player.

That’s how it was, because the first racket in the world started this match well. The Pole played very offensively from the beginning, which her opponent had huge problems with. The Raszynian won the first five games in a row and was on her way to another bagel in her career. The only points the Slovenian scored were due to the Raszyn team’s individual mistakes. Ultimately, the team did not concede a single game and ended the first set with a score of 6-0, which lasted less than 25 minutes.

Iga Świątek finished the job in the second set

In the second set, Iga Świątek had no intention of slowing down. There was no element in which the Pole did not dominate over Juvan. Almost every play, return or volley, even on the border, hit the court. At one point, Eurosport commentators said the match looked “brutal”.

It was only in the fourth game that Kaja Juvan took the lead for the first time in the match, 30:40, which was met with a lively reaction from the fans. Unfortunately, Iga Świątek did not finish this fight with the so-called bicycle, because she sent the next ball into the outfield and the Slovenian won the first and, as it later turned out, only game in this match. This game ended with a score of 6:1 and the entire match with a score of 2:0.

The first racket in the world will face the winner of the pair Jelena Ostapenko – Bernarda Pera. The Latvian representative is 21st in the WTA rankings, and at this tournament she is seeded 20th. In turn, the American ranks 73rd in the world.
