A tourist from Hong Kong wanted to swim in Warsaw. The city guard pulled him out of the Vistula River
Officers detained a man who was swimming near Saska Kępa. The water temperature in the river was only 8 degrees Celsius.
The capital of Poland has many attractions, including the impressive Vistula coast, where in summer residents and tourists enjoy public beaches and restaurants located on barges. Kayak and paddle board rentals are also open during the season, thanks to which you can admire the river from an even closer distance. However, swimming is strictly prohibited in the Vistula River, and fatal drownings have occurred here in the past. Despite this, a tourist from Hong Kong decided to try his hand at facing the fast current of the longest Polish river.
The tourist wanted to swim in the Vistula River
The unusual event, reported by the City Guard in Warsaw on its website, occurred on Saturday, March 16, before 3 p.m. The officers on duty were on a routine patrol when they suddenly saw a tourist swimming down the Vistula. The man was near Saska Kępa in Praga-Południe and was wearing no clothes except underwear. The guards approached the daredevil in a boat to check if he needed help. The swimmer turned out to be a tourist from Hong Kong who simply wanted to have some recreational fun. He did not pay attention to the cold water (that day the temperature of the Vistula was only 8 degrees Celsius) or the fast current of the river.
The city guard pulled the tourist out of the water
The tourist overestimated his strength and did not cope as well as he expected. He found himself very far from the clothes he had left behind and was complaining about the cold water. The Hong Kong citizen had no idea that he was traveling on a navigable route and that swimming was strictly prohibited in the Vistula River. The guards pulled him out of the water and took him to the beach near the landing pad, where his belongings were lying. The “enthusiast of wild swimming” received a lesson and a commemorative photo on the website of the City Guard, in which he is wrapped in a thermal blanket and does not lose his good mood, posing with his thumbs up.
