He was supposed to be Robert Lewandowski’s replacement in the Polish national team, but once again he disappointed. Arkadiusz Milik cannot count the last dozen or so months as particularly successful in terms of his performances in the national team. The attacker’s achievements were harshly assessed by Canal+ journalist Tomasz Ćwiąkała.
Arkadiusz Milik was last in regular shooting form in the White and Red team during the times of… coach Adam Nawałka. Looking at the calendar, the striker who usually plays for Juventus scores on average one goal per year for the national team. It is no different in the current one, i.e. 2023. Milik played in Chisinau against Moldova, where the Poles eventually took a 2-0 lead and allowed themselves to score three goals and lose 2-3.

– For me it is an antiphenomenon that a player of this caliber would guarantee one goal a year in the national team. I no longer know what happened at the end of the first half. Maybe it’s some kind of blockage in his head, caused by the fact that he knows that thanks to his misses and wasted matches in the national team, he has become a pop culture figure – he didn’t bite Ćwiąkała’s tongue.
In Sunday’s European Championship 2024 qualifying match, the White and Reds only drew with Moldova (1:1). The Poles were shocked by the lack of finishing the actions they created, including: Milik, having several good opportunities to score a goal. The only goal for the Polish side was scored by Karol Świderski, who played in the absence of Robert Lewandowski with a nine on his back. However, it was not enough to beat much lower ranked rivals.
Two matches of the Polish national team in November
The White and Reds are in a very difficult position in terms of direct promotion to next year’s European Championships. In November, the Poles will play their last competitive match, taking on the Czechs at the PGE National Stadium. They are the runner-up of Group E, with a point advantage over Poland and one match less played. The Poland-Czech Republic match is scheduled for November 17, starting at 8:45 p.m.
In addition to playing in the European Championship 2024 qualifiers, the White and Reds will play one more match. The Poles will close the moderately successful year 2023 with another clash at the PGE National Stadium, where coach Michał Probierz’s team will face the Latvians. The friendly match between Poland and Latvia will take place on November 21, also from 8:45 p.m.
