The semi-final was not for Magda Linette. The rival was too strong
Magda Linette fought for the semi-final of the WTA 500 tournament in Strasbourg. Her opponent was Madison Keys, who was the favorite in this fight.
Magda Linette's form improves before Roland Garros. The Pole is doing great in the WTA tournament in Strasbourg. At the inauguration of the competition, the Poznań native eliminated Sorana Cirstea, who had also lost to Iga Świątek not so long ago. The 50th racket in the world snatched victory from Ekaterina Aleksandrova (18th WTA) in the next round. Despite losing the first set, the white and red team managed to get back into the game and equalize, and then beat their rival.
The weather ruined the organizers' plans
In the quarterfinals of the WTA 500 tournament in Strasbourg, an even more difficult task awaited her, because Madison Keys, the sixteenth ranked racket in the world, was waiting for her there. The beginning of this match was rather calm and even. The problems started only when the score was 1:2 for the American. The Poznań player couldn't keep her serve and lost the game to zero. In the next part of this set, the tennis player confirmed the break and jumped back to 1:4.
Unfortunately, in the next game the Pole again had to defend herself against break points. The weather certainly did not help the match, because there were storm clouds over Strasbourg, and lightning and rain could be heard in the background. With the advantage for Keys in the sixth game, the referee stopped the match.
After almost five hours of break, the clash between Magda Linette and Madison Keys was resumed. Unfortunately, this break did not work to the Pole's advantage, because first she was broken, and then she lost due to her opponent's pass. Ultimately, the set ended with a score of 1:6 for the American.
Madison Keys finished the job in the second set
Magda Linette entered the second set better because she managed to defend her serve without losing a point. Unfortunately, Madison Keys did the same and quickly equalized the score. In the third game, the Pole had to defend further break points. Already at the first opportunity, the American took advantage of her chance and once again defeated her opponent.
The Poznań player did everything to get back into the game, but it failed. Ultimately, the opponent had the upper hand 3:6 and the score was 2:0 in the whole match. Unfortunately, the semi-final of the tournament in Strasbourg did not go to Magda Linette.
