The Polish volleyball player had no illusions about the chances of playing in the national team. He revealed a plan for the future
Polish volleyball players are getting ready for the upcoming European Championships. Nikola Grbić does not make any revolutions and focuses on players who ensured the team’s triumph in the Nations League 2023. One of the Polish talented hosts, who recently won the silver medal at the Universiade, spoke about the chances of playing in the Polish team. Although he aims high, he is aware of the reality.
Polish volleyball players after winning the gold of the League of Nations have many reasons to be happy. They showed great power in front of their own audience and gave their supporters hope that the White-and-Reds will also fight for the full pool at the European Championships. In the meantime, the Polish academic team, which brought silver from the Universiade in Chengdu, also achieved great success.
Michał Gierżot is honest about the chances of playing in the national team
The players of Dariusz Luks went like a storm throughout the tournament. They didn’t lose even a set until the final. In the match for gold, however, they were helpless against the good game of the Italians. Players from the Apennine Peninsula defended the title won four years ago in Naples.
One of the main characters was Michał Gierżot. The young player made himself known from the good side competing for PSG Stali Nysa in PlusLiga. His good play earned him a call-up from Nikola Grbic, but an injury prevented him from participating in the first VNL tournament. For the next one, the Serbian bet on proven players. In an interview with the WP SportoweFakty portal, the volleyball player born in Police spoke about his chances and the fact that he was aware of the huge competition in his position.
– I know what hosts are in the Polish national team, so I had no expectations about my role. I am very happy that I could be there for almost a month in total. This time has certainly given me a lot in terms of sports. I consider my stay in the senior team a plus. It’s clear that as an athlete I always want more, but I believe that success requires patience and my time in this team will come, said Gierżot.

Michał Gierżot is a graduate of the Talent Academy of Jastrzębski Węgiel. He made his debut in the team of the current Polish champion in PlusLiga, but he received more chances to play in Cuprum Lubin. Since 2022, he has been a volleyball player for Stal Nysa.
