The Italians presented the design of their pavilion for the EXPO 2020 exhibition in Dubai. The team responsible for the project includes Carlo Ratti, Italo Rota, Matteo Gatto and F&M Ingegneria. The main elements of the building’s structure will be three boats in green, white and red, the national colors of Italy. The boats will arrive in Dubai and then be used as the three dominant elements of the pavilion’s roof.

History combined with modernity

The designers’ intention is to show the historical way of exploring new lands, which has accompanied humanity for centuries. The arrival of the boat is supposed to be a symbolic reference to ancient times. Using them to construct the pavilion is intended to show the future, which, according to the originators, will be based on the reuse of materials.

The pavilion will occupy a total area of 3,500 square meters and will be 25 meters high. The interior of the building will be filled with spaces stylized as Italian squares and an area covered with greenery, which will serve as an internal park.

According to analyzes carried out by the Italians, their pavilion may be visited by up to 28,000 people. people per day, which will exceed 5 million visitors over the six months of the exhibition. The pavilion will be adjacent to structures prepared by the USA, Japan, Germany, India and Saudi Arabia.
