The city authorities in France are selling a house for 1 euro. There is one condition to meet

This is yet another such action in Europe. This time a town in France is looking for inhabitants. The authorities offer a house for 1 euro, but there is a catch.

In January 2024, we informed that a Croatian town was looking for residents who could buy houses there for 57 cents. We have never seen such a low price for a property, but the practice itself is well known in Europe. In this way, the authorities of depopulated places encourage new families to settle. A similar practice is now followed by a French town.

Houses for 1 euro in France

The city authorities in France are selling a house for 1 euro. Anyone looking for a place to move should pay attention to this unique place in a European country.

The property is located in Saint-Amand-Montrond. It is a commune in the Cher department in the Central Region of France. According to data for 1990, the commune was inhabited by 11,937 people, but, as you can guess, this number decreased significantly. The town is located between Paris and Lyon and has become the latest European city to offer houses at incredibly low prices.

A two-bedroom house with a living room, kitchen, toilet on the ground floor, two bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor is sold for 1 euro. It also has its own yard and garage.

Unfortunately, there is a catch to this offer.

There is one catch

As the French house has not been inhabited for 12 years, it will require a major renovation of €127,800. While this number may be staggering, François Blondieeau, deputy city official, stated that the city will offer “significant subsidies” to complete the properties.

Anyone considering taking over a French house will need to submit an application to purchase the property by June 15, 2024. The successful applicant is expected to sign the documents in January 2025.

In addition, the homeowner will have to have lived in the property for at least ten years.

Saint-Amand-Montrond is just a 40-minute drive from Bourges, a French city famous for its half-timbered buildings. The French city is home to attractions such as Bourges Cathedral, built in the late 12th century. Another attraction is Palais Jacques-Coeur – a large hotel that was once a palace.
