Minister of Development: Real estate prices will continue to rise

Hetman on the future of Safe 2% credit. "It might even be smaller"

Real estate prices have been rising, are rising and will continue to grow because supply does not catch up with demand – said the Minister of Development and Technology Krzysztof Hetman on Radio Zet, when asked whether he would resign if real estate prices increase due to the “Kredyt na start” program.

Minister of Development and Technology Krzysztof Hetman was a guest of Radio Zet on Thursday. One of the topics of the conversation was the government's new housing program “Kredyt na start”. – We are starting public consultations, being aware of the risks associated with the program. From the very beginning we knew about the greatest risk and we communicated it ourselves regarding a possible price increase. We conducted extensive consultations – Hetman explained.

Will a “starter loan” cause real estate prices to increase?

The head of the Ministry of Development and Technology assured that “the maximum number of fuses has been entered, which will limit the possibility of price increases.” What fuses are we talking about? Hetman pointed to the income limit.

– We want to reach a group of people who really need such support. There is a group of people who are too rich to get a flat in the social housing system, but are too poor to meet the bank requirements for a loan – said the minister.

The Radio Zet guest reminded that two draft bills are currently being processed – one on assistance for borrowers, and the other supporting social housing, regarding TBSs, local governments, and apartments for rent.

When asked in the online segment by one of the listeners whether he would resign if real estate prices increase due to the “Kredyt na start” program, Hetman emphasized that he did not see a connection here.

– Real estate prices have increased, are increasing and will continue to increase because supply does not catch up with demand. For now – said the minister, emphasizing that “there is no support program and prices are rising.” – Prices are also rising, including: because people earn more Hetman said.

The Minister of Development and Technology estimates that the number of applications for “Start Loan” will amount to approximately 60,000 per year.

Poor atmosphere around the program. Minister about threats

Hetman also admitted that he was worried and surprised by the atmosphere around the “Start Loan” program. When asked for details, he said that “the director of the department responsible for the project received criminal threats on his social media this week.” The minister announced that they would be reported to the police. – We were forced to turn off the telephone in the office because, God bless the lady who works there, she was forced to listen to a lot of profanity from people who called this number – Hetman said.

According to the Minister of Development and Technology, it is an “organized action of some group.”
