Meeting of the “Work Team for Poland”. Morawiecki announced two bills
Mateusz Morawiecki appealed to the government to extend the freezing of energy prices and the zero VAT rate on food. – If there is no appropriate action on the part of the government, there will be our parliamentary bills – announced the former prime minister.
On Tuesday, February 6, another meeting of the “Work Team for Poland”, chaired by former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, was held.
What is the task of the “Work Team for Poland”?
This is an initiative of Law and Justice announced just after the elections, which, contrary to appearances, is not the so-called shadow cabinet. In addition to politicians, the “Work Team for Poland” includes independent experts from various fields.
The team’s task is to analyze the most important issues for our country and, consequently, create draft bills that will be submitted to the Sejm on an ongoing basis. In this way, PiS wants to prove that it will constitute a substantive opposition that presents an alternative to the government’s actions.
An appeal to extend the anti-inflation shields
Tuesday’s meeting of the “Work Team for Poland” was devoted to energy policy. During the press conference after the meeting, Morawiecki appealed to the government of Prime Minister Donald Tusk to extend the freezing of energy prices and the zero VAT rate on food.
– We generally agreed that the effects of all the shock-absorbing measures we had previously applied should be extended. (…) We have proposed solutions that will not burden the budget or will burden the budget only to a small extent. We have proposed a tax on excess profits of energy companies from all sectors and subsectors of energy companies (…). Zero VAT on food, which we implemented two years ago, is to cease to apply from April 1 this year. We postulate and call on the government to extend zero VAT until the end of the year, said the former prime minister.
Morawiecki: So that no one can use the excuse
He announced that if the government does not take any action in this regard, PiS will soon submit its own bills to the Marshal’s staff. He added that the projects are almost ready and the Sejm will have enough time to process them.
Morawiecki emphasized that unfreezing energy prices – which in the current legal situation is to take place at the beginning of July – would lead to an increase in prices by up to approx. 100%.
– If there is no appropriate action on the part of the government, there will be our parliamentary projects that will result in, on the one hand, proposing an extension of the protective shield for electricity and heat energy, and on the other hand, also for VAT on food. (…) If those in power do not implement this (…), we will (…) submit our own bills soon (ed.) in order to complete the entire legislative path so that no one can use such an excuse before implementing solutions that are good for Poles and small and medium-sized entrepreneurs – added Morawiecki.
