Moon milk is made on the basis of adaptogens. These are plant compounds that help the body adapt to unfavorable environmental conditions, such as stress. They strengthen immunity and have strong antioxidant properties. They protect cells against the harmful effects of free radicals. They delay the aging processes. They accelerate tissue regeneration. They improve the functioning of the nervous system. They reduce internal tension. One of the most popular adaptogens used for problems with falling asleep is ashwagandha, or Indian ginseng (another name is winter cherry). Research has shown that the plant relieves stress and anxiety, which translates into better sleep quality. Cinnamon and other spices work similarly.

The so-called moon milk can be prepared with many different ingredients. I encourage you to experiment and use the products you like the most. Cinnamon can be successfully replaced by turmeric, cardamom, cloves, anise, pepper, nutmeg, cocoa or vanilla. If you don’t have clitoria ternatena (butterfly pea flower) on hand, use chamomile, lavender or wild rose petals. You can replace aashwagandha with maca root, reishi, ginseng or mint. The final color of moon milk depends on the ingredients you use.

Moon milk with the addition of blueberries, cherries or pumpkin is also very popular. Experiment, mix spices and find your favorite moon milk for a good night’s sleep. Drink the drink once a day about half an hour before bed. Follow this “treatment” for two weeks, then take a month’s break and start using moon milk again for another fourteen days (if you feel it is necessary).
