The Pole came out of big trouble twice, including losing the decisive tie-break 5-2. Thus, Biało-Czerwony joined the group of such celebrities as, among others, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray, who also triumphed in the Chinese competition, and the former was present at the final match. Now the resident of Wrocław can enjoy a huge amount of money.

It was a long but extremely fruitful tournament for Hubert Hurkacz. The Polish representative played six difficult matches, beating respectively: Thanasi Kokkinakis, Yu Hsiou Hsuego, Zhizhen Zhang and Fabian Marozsan, Sebastian Korda and finally Andrei Rublev. To reach the final, the 25-year-old from Moscow had to eliminate: Quentin Halys, Adrian Mannarino, Tommy Paul, Ugo Humbert and Grigor Dimitrov. Hubert Hurkacz set too high conditions for him.

Just for participating in the final, the 26-year-old from Wrocław was guaranteed big money of PLN 625,000. 665 euros, i.e. approx. 2 million 838 thousand zloty. However, this is only part of what he managed to collect for defeating the Russian in the grand final. Shortly after the end of the final match, he commented on his triumph, referring, among other things, to: to his grandmother.

– I do not know what to say. It was a big fight, especially from a mental perspective. We both had match balls so it was a tricky game. Andrei showed great shots. I tried to answer the same. Meetings like this show that you should always fight until the end. I’m very pleased with how I performed at the end. It was great to be in such a group, just as it was great to see Roger in the stands. I hope he enjoyed the match. It’s a big tournament with traditions, the organization is really amazing. I’m glad I can be here. I would like to dedicate this title to my grandmother, who celebrates her birthday today. Happy birthday too! – said Hubert Hurkacz.
