On Friday, February 9, protests began across the country by farmers who oppose the implementation of European Union decisions.

It’s about the so-called climate policy and duty-free trade in agricultural products from Ukraine, as a result of which farmers are recording increasing losses. It is worth adding that identical protests have been taking place in many European countries for several weeks.

One of as many as 260 cities where Friday’s protest took place was Bydgoszcz. A statement from the Bydgoszcz branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways shows that several hundred tractors have arrived in the city. The protesters arrived at the building of the Provincial Office, where they burned tires and straw.

At one point, a group of protesters tried to enter the building to meet with the voivode of Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, Michał Sztybel. The police intervened on site. Law enforcement officers explain that they were forced to use pepper spray against protesters.

– People who were in front of the office tried to enter it by force. The police were obliged to intervene because it was an illegal action. Unfortunately, the force used by the officers was insufficient. Despite calls to stop such actions, protesters did not react. It was necessary to use a means of direct coercion – pepper spray. Only this made the policemen’s actions effective and these people withdrew – said junior inspector in an interview with “Interia”. It was necessary to call an ambulance because one person required assistance. According to “Interia” reports, she was most likely a journalist reporting on the protest. Finally, before On the 15th, voivode Sztybel met with a delegation of protesters.
