Eccentric billionaire Elon Musk does not let himself be forgotten and returns to the controversial idea of bombing the fourth planet from the Sun. He encourages his project on social media. He also started selling T-shirts designed especially for this occasion.
Dropping a nuclear bomb on Mars is, of course, more than just a whim of a bored billionaire. Theoretically, Musk claims, heating the planet using a mechanism similar to the greenhouse effect on Earth could help colonize Mars. This effect would be achieved by several atomic explosions.
Musk mentioned his idea publicly for the first time in 2015. In his opinion, strong explosions would release greenhouse gases collected under the planet’s surface. Their spread would significantly raise the temperature across Mars, making it easier to colonize.
It is not known whether Musk has changed his mind since then, especially after being convinced by scientists that the plan would likely fail. It is certain that he has not completely forgotten about that idea and is now coming back to it more or less seriously. He even started selling T-shirts with the catchy slogan “Nuke Mars”, triggering a whole avalanche of jokes and memes.
